Some say 2020 is the beginning of new decade. Some say, it actually is the last year of previous decade. One way, or another, upcoming year will be for sure intense, and a little bit insane with US Elections, UK brexiting, planet Earth burning even more, and Tokyo Olympics streaming from everywhere.
Cutting through this mess will be tough job, but not impossible.
Here are three key trends, which we believe will shape visual trends in 2020.
1
Visuals for Health
As the world gets more and more digital and wearable devices are getting smaller and smaller, one topic emerges: Health. Interestingly, visualising health would not be dedicated just for healthcare industry, but will be mainstream. The reason? Confluence of two big trends:
Rise of health tracking tech and the ascend to burnout and mental health problems as a result of digital lifestyles.
86% of British people say they have experienced anxiety due to work pressure in the last year. 87% have difficulties switching off from work, and 79% cite feelings of failure as a result (Microsoft, September 2019).
Interestingly, both heath tracking tech, and mental health industry will have the same aim of visual communication: clean and optimistic illustrations, that will bring assurance and calm your soul.
At Minty, we believe, this theme could become so big, it will eventually visually influence all other industries.
2
Flygskam & Co goes global
Swedish shame of flying and rise of woke culture. Burning continents twice year as summer takes place on both hemispheres, floods and hurricanes anytime and anywhere. This all will result in demand for visual style reporting post catastrophic, as we are rushing into apocalypse with full steam ahead.
With all this on mind, there will always be a choice to go for visual theme in 2020. Either burning, intense and energetic.
Or something as reminder of how beautiful nature is. Visuals could be only be just calm and soothing assurances that future can be changed.

3
Characters & Avatars
As generation of Fortnite players grows older in 2020, the consumer market will be looking for ways to approach them.
Illustrations will suddenly be used not only for fantastic landscapes and mind-bending visuals, but also for creation of characters, which will become alive as the face of brands.
No matter if it would be 3D graphic frog, vector based anime character or pencil drawn teddybear, characters could be the new symbols of brands.
