Artist of the month Álex Falcón

What does Canary Islands, running, children’s book and surfing have in common? Our artist of the month Álex Falcón. Read more and get to know this polyvalent illustrator.

Álex was born in Canary Islands, which has a huge impact on his life and work. He finds inspiration in nature and spends a lot of time on the beach. Not only it’s close to where he lives, but his first lines were drawn in a little sketchbook while he was sitting on a sand absorbing the atmosphere around him. Are you already jealous?

Every project that he works on starts by sketching first drafts. Álex has been working on a numerous projects and he finds a pleasure in every kind of them. From conceptual illustrations to illustrations for publishing, especially literature for children. A special affection he finds towards his album project called “When the dreams live”, that was selected in the exhibition of the Asian Festival of children’s content in Singapore, 2016.

And what is Álex like in his spare time? Every morning he starts a day by running, he loves healthy food and tasting new flavours. When there is a time, Álex jumps on a surf and conquers the waves of ocean and takes some photos, which is another way how he can express himself and his view on the world. Everywhere he goes, he travels with his sketchbook, capturing what he sees. Besides that, he likes to play guitar and go to cinema.

Currently he is working on a project called “The Elephant Man”, preparing for his exhibition on May at the Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, Spain, and besides that on his personal illustrated album projects.

And what about his future projects? One of them is the publication of illustrations from the book ”Tiempo Bifido” by the Mexican writer Leda Rendón who won National Prize for Young Literature “Salvador Gallardo Dávalos”. But his dream is to get his personal illustrated album published and find a way to help future generation of artists.
